Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #1 – Comic Review

Title: The Last Lantern (Sinestro’s Law Part 1)
Writer: Robert Venditti
Penciller: Rafa Sandoval
Inker: Jordi Tarragona
Colorist: Tomeu Morey
Published by DC Comics on July 2016

Short Recap:

Hal Jordan just found out that he was the last Green Lantern in the universe and try his best to know what happens to his friends and find them. Meanwhile, Sinestro Corps gain control all the sector left by the Green Lantern and became the biggest corps in the universe.

Review:

The title says Rebirth. So it’s a time for new fans of DC Comics to start picking up this series and follow the journey of Hal Jordan. But it seems Venditti just say, “NOPE! I won’t allow new fans pick it up!” The story in this issue will confuse many fans who just new to¬†anything related to the Green Lantern because it full with plot holes and stuff that could only be understood if you take a look at the older series of Green Lantern. And rather explaining one or two things, Venditti chose to put not-so-important Hal’s journey.

And also minor spoiler here: Green Lantern Corps is back! Part of me happy to see them back to this universe, but my other part is a little bit disappointed with this. I really hope to see a mystery adventure kind story arcs where Hal did his best to uncover the truth behind his friends disappearance while being hunted by Sinestro Corps. I think I just get enough lantern wars at the moment.

Perhaps the highlight of this issue is the absolutely stunning artwork of Rafa Sandoval. Greatly aided by the color work from Tomeu Morey, Sandoval’s depiction for Sinestro and Parallax are amazing. In any great comic, the story is shown as much as it told and with this issue, Sandoval has proven that he’s up for the challenge.

Conclusion:

I really appreciate how Sandoval, Tarragona, and Morey did in this issue. But I must admit that beside the art stuff, there are only a little positive stuff left in here.
